It didn’t start out that way, but this blog has been built upon craftswomanship of all kinds. Its beauty is truly within the quality materials sourced by small local, national and global women and minority artists who take pride in the details of the handmade pieces they produce.
To empower the artists whose work I have fallen in love with over the years and
create a marketplace where those artists can feel inspired but also supported,
in their every endeavor.
That is why (among other reasons) when I came across Santa Barbara designer Amy Digregorio and her amazing work, I not only fell in love with her amazing pieces but also came
to truly admire the dedication and carefully crafted handiwork behind them. Her
attention to detail, reliance on quality materials as well as quality pieces
really sealed the deal.
When we spoke, one of my biggest takeaways was how committed she was to the idea of
being able to touch everything she makes with her own hands, so much so that
she'll be the first to admit it's often to her own detriment and that of her business as a designer.
"Growing my line of jewelry and leather goods even further has always come down to the
fact that I don't want to compromise quality over quantity when it comes to my
pieces," said DiGregorio. "And for now that means perfecting a small
line of specialty, one-of-a-kind goods that I can create efficiently."
she's a bit of a perfectionist.
And it shows in the simple boho style of her wares that are often complemented by raw,
natural elements like gemstones, turquoise or even animal bone. The integrity
of each piece maintained by its untamed and untethered essence coupled with an authentic,
polished finish that is so indicative of Amy DiGregorio. But while it may seem
like these pieces embody the quintessential, free-spirited California vibe with their laid back, easy-to-wear approach, like most successful entrepreneurs, Amy DiGregorio would be nothing if not a risk taker. Quitting her job after college on a whim, booking a trip to Southeast Asia and following her heart led to the cultivation and perfection of the art of jewelry making which in turn began what has now been a lengthy and rewarding career as a self-made artist in central California.
And with that career has come amazing opportunities. In 2017, DiGregorio was given the chance to showcase her wares at the 75th Pre Golden Globes gifting with compassion party at the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel in Beverly Hills where stars including Steven Bauer, Sharon Stone and Viola Davis made off with a little piece of DiGregorio’s designs for themselves.
And above all, DiGregorio never forgets to foster compassion and celebrate community wherever she goes!
Including on our site where you can now find and purchase her beautiful jewelry and leather goods and support other local artists/female entrepreneurs just like her!
