I'll keep it brief, because to be honest I'm already in vacation mode and there is so much to be done between now and Saturday that I'm both simultaneously exalted and exhausted.
This post is a bit more scatter-brained than what you may be used to but I've been thinking a lot and its the best way I know how to put those thoughts out into the universe, to start cultivating a deeper consciousness, spreading good vibes, self awareness and love. I've been thinking about those things too.
First things first, I leave for my first week long vacation in almost a year, we're going to Traverse City to camp for a week with my family during the infamous Traverse City Film Festival. If you've never been to Traverse City and as a result, never had a chance to enjoy the film festival, I highly recommend both. I'm looking so forward to parking myself by a big beautiful lake, on a soft comfy beach towel, with a snack and a good book and maybe a beverage and just soaking up the sun! And then in the evenings, heading over to the big blow up screen (way cooler in person than in my description btw) in front of the lake and watching a movie or two while the sun sets. Plus, Traverse City has so many delicious eats, breweries, wineries, hiking paths, biking trails, state parks, you name it, they got it. I can't wait to explore.
So before I zone out completely, I just wanted to remind you that our contest is still going on all the way up until Friday! So don't forget, and please enter to win a super cool, boozy passport. Especially if you go out in D.C. regularly, or have a fun weekend in D.C. coming up, this passport is the perfect way to get two-for-one drinks without even really trying!
Lastly, a couple somewhat cliche thoughts to leave you with:
A.) Take every opportunity to meet someone new, step outside your comfort zone and build a community around you that you love. I feel so fortunate over the course of this amazing journey to have met so many fabulous creatives and connected with them but honestly, it wasn't for lack of trying. Each connection came as a result of effort, time, thought, mindfulness and sheer determination. My favorite part about the journey, is the strangers you meet along the way. Some of my most favorite and lasting memories are those of people I never thought I'd meet. Life is pretty amazing that way.
B.) Be conscious of your actions every. single. day. and what I mean by that is, I've been thinking a lot lately about sustainability and eco-consciousness. It's not a new thing. I'm late in conforming. All this I know, but even if its just incrementally, whatever you think you can handle, make choices to leave this earth and the planet better than the way you found it. Whether it's through fashion or the mode of transportation you take or the amount you consume generally as you go through this life. Think more about the impact. Think less about yourself as an individual and more about the global impact of humans as a race. It's heavy. And I'm not trying to be, but just think more. And support small business, look for excuses to support like-minded creatives, or friends you know who are artists or women who are just starting out in pursuing whatever it is they are passionate about. Help to breathe life into projects you love, even (and especially) if they are not your own.
C.) Be present for those who need you and show up for them. I also recommend any opportunity you allow yourself to put your phone, laptop, computer, etc to rest and just BE. Ignore the urge to put your device between you and every delicious moment of vacation, every still frame you keep harbor it away where only you can find it, in your mind, and revel in every secret moment, every feeling, every dusting of sparkly, golden light that dances across the play back of this time and this place in your life. Don't forget to breathe, to let go, to embrace, all at once. Just don't forget to live, okay? It's so important. And by so-doing, encourage others to live. It's not easy out there, but it sure can be beautiful.
Have I wasted enough of your time? Are you eye rolling yet? I'm done now, so please, you can go back to living your life. But don't forget to stop by every once in a while, drop us a line, stay a while, whatever it is the kids are saying these days.
I will always be here for you,
